Journey Into History - Stockport local history

Journey into History

The house at 91 Wellington Road South, Stockport has seen a lot of changes. A glance at the neat frontage of Turners art and craft shop won't give you many clues about its strange history. It won't tell you, for example, that sixty years ago, it was a popular pub. It won't tell you, either, that a gifted artist once lived there who decorated the walls with colourful murals. The full story of 91 Wellington Road may now never be known, but recently, the walls of this old building have begun to give up their secrets. This website is an ongoing project to try to piece together the clues that may throw some light on the old house's surprising history.

Dave’s Curry and Beer Guide

curryandbeer.co.uk

This site is a personal project to review some of my favourite places in which to indulge two of my favourite things - curry and beer.

The reviews on this site represent my personal opinions. I have no links to any of the establishments here, other than having been there and enjoyed them. I tend to avoid places with loud music, rubbish beer, surly staff, etc etc. You may not agree with me and may want to either leave comments or go elsewhere - both are fine with me.

I'm aiming to keep these reviews reasonably current by visiting all my pubs and curry houses as often as I can. It's a hard life...

We're open for business!

I have had the pleasure of helping a little with the design of the drrich.co.uk website.

Dr Richard Whitaker has years of experience designing embedded electronics systems. He is developing this site with the aim of encouraging an interest in electronics. The projects are free for you to try and he is working on more content to provide a great educational resource. The current project explains how to build a GPS logger with a "Rabbit" microprocessor.

www.ortrantutorial.com Free Fortran Tutorial

fortrantutorial.com

This FORTRAN study guide is a "hands on" introduction to programming using FORTRAN. The emphasis in this course is to learn how to program rather than to learn FORTRAN. My experience is that most people who need to write computer programs know several languages, and often these are self taught. Once you have a firm concept of what programming is all about you will find it easy to learn other languages.

I have chosen FORTRAN for a number of reasons. It’s a good language for beginners as it is easy to learn and widely available. It is particularly useful for scientists and engineers as there are inbuilt functions for handling mathematical constructs such as matrices. The precision of calculation can be selected according to the need of the calculation. There are libraries of numerical algorithms available that shortcut coding. As this is a beginner's guide I have focussed on the core language. .
